It’s important to recognise that trauma is not actually an event.
Trauma is a moment in your life when you experienced big emotions, and didn’t feel safe or supported to process them and complete the trauma cycle.
This experience then creates a belief system within you, such as;
- I’m not enough
- No one listens to me
- I’m not important
- It’s not safe to be vulnerable
Throughout your life, each time those emotions are experienced again, your body remembers and anchors in that belief system, until it almost becomes the story that you live by;
“I’m always rejected”
“I’ll always be alone”
“I’m not smart enough”
Your body remembers this at a cellular level.
Even if that trauma was pre-verbal, womb, or ancestral trauma, your body will still remember it. This is why it’s challenging to heal using cognitive (talk) therapy, because you may not have access to those memories. And even if you do have cognitive access, once you revisit a distant memory more than five times, it’s only around 50% accurate, so how can you heal based on your perception of a memory?
But what IS 100% accurate, is the emotions you felt at that time. Your body remembers this deeply.
Your emotions are energy in motion. They need to be felt, processed, and released.
Heavy emotions such as shame, grief, guilt, and anger, hold so much energetic weight in your body, and it actually takes so much energy to hold all of that down. This is why emotional stress from trauma is so exhausting - you are not only holding on to a huge amount of energy, but you are also using so much energy to hold it all in.
With the awareness that emotions are held within your body, not your mind, that is where we journey to in order to heal - your whole body.
Using the physical body to access the emotional body, allows us to uncover the heavy emotions that you are holding on to. We can then give them space to be felt, processed, and released.
Somatic Therapy is a process of feeling and experiencing sensations, energy, and emotions. Allowing yourself to feel it all, as uncomfortable and painful as you fear it might be, but in actual fact, we can process and release a lifetime of emotional pain in as little as half an hour.
Once you give your pain space to be fully seen, heard, and felt, it will dissipate quite quickly.
It takes more energy to hold it all within than it does to fully process and release it.
The Somatic Therapy that I offer clients is unique, in that I weave in many different techniques, modalities, tools, and intuitive methods. I also don’t need to know your pain story in order to guide you in a session, which is quite a relief for many clients. You have lived through your painful experiences and most often have told your story over and over. I don’t need to know the details, I uncover the emotions that are attached to your experiences to bring you relief, release, healing, and expansion.
And from there, we journey even deeper to heal the core wounds, bringing root cause resolution.
This work is big, it’s deep; we aim to heal on every level, including generational trauma and this is why clients get such profound shifts and deep healing.
